'They smell like cat pee' cry fans as HI-CHEW makes change to iconic candy recipe – but foodies want something different | 3O57K48 | 2024-05-11 17:08:01
HI-CHEW candy is going from chewy to gooey with the launch of a new innovative gummy candy.
But some fans of the classic sweet treat posted their gripes on social media, saying they're not feeling the new texture.

Makers of the fruity, chewy candy, HI-CHEW announced the launch of a new breakthrough product, combining fan-favorite flavors with a brand new gummy texture.
But not all fans are feeling the latest concept, especially one particular flavor.
"I love all hi-chew but the mango," wrote one Facebook user in a post of the launch.
"I think they smell like cat pee or stinky armpits," they continued.
Another user echoed a similar sentiment, saying they'll "definitely get both bags" but will "throw the mango kind away."
Despite the flavor pushback, others are excited about the gummies, with some referring to them as a "game changer."
One woman even praised them for their presumably softer texture that will be "less rough on her teeth."
"Omgggg I can get behind this!" wrote one user.
"I really don't like gummies but I will try these," said another.
"The launch of HI-CHEW Gummies and HI-CHEW Gummies Sour is an exciting next step for us in expanding our texture offerings," said Teruhiro Kawabe, chief representative for the USA & president, CEO of Morinaga America, Inc.

"This addition in texture offerings furthers our goal of showcasing our brand innovation to cater to the U.S. market, and the Sweets & Snacks Expo is the perfect setting to debut it. Now, consumers with both gummy and chewy candy preferences can indulge in the world of HI-CHEW."
Both the gummy and gummy sour variations will be available on the candy's website beginning this July.
The new products are slated to hit select retailers nationwide in Fall 2024.
Both new variations will be available in 4.23-ounce bags for $3.29.
The price is subject to vary by market.
And they'll be available for sampling at the 2024 Sweets & Snacks Expo from May 14-16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
