THE body of executed serial killer Peter Manuel is among those set to be dug up if the old Barlinnie prison ground is sold off.

The Scottish Government is weighing up whether to flog the land which housed some of the most dangerous cons in Glasgow.

Manuel was executed at Barlinnie

Evil Manuel is among the 10 prisoners put to death in Bar-L between 1946 and 1960.

It is understood the Scottish Prison Service will have to apply to Glasgow Sheriff Court for permission to exhume any bodies left in the grounds.

But no decision has been made on what to do with the remains while the new jailed is being built.

A source added: "Given the manner in which they were buried and the amount of time that has since passed, we wouldn't expect there to be much to exhume.

"Efforts will be made to contact any surviving family members to see if they want to receive the remains of their loved ones."

If unclaimed it's understood the bodies will be cremated and their ashes scattered.

Manuel was executed in 1958 after he was convicted of murdering seven people in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

He lived in Birkenshaw, Lanarkshire, where he was bullied throughout his childhood.

When he turned 15, the beast broke into a young woman's house, waking her, pulling down her underwear and battering her with a hammer.

He attacked several other women before being caught and caged for nine years in Peterhead prison when he was 16.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Over two years in the 1950s, he was responsible for almost a third of all killings in Scotland.

In a sensational trial at Glasgow High Court, Manuel sacked his lawyers and conducted his own defence.

In July 1958, Manuel was hanged on the gallows at Barlinnie Prison.

His last words are reported to have been: "Turn up the radio and I'll go quietly."

The last execution at Barlinnie was in 1960 when 19 year-old Anthony Miller was hanged for killing a man during a robbery in the city's Queens Park.

Executioner Harry Allen oversaw the hanging both Manuel and Miller.

The remains of all executed prisoners became the property of the state and were buried in unmarked graves within the prison grounds.

Family and friends were unable ever to visit the plots or pay their respects.

In 1997 some remains were exhumed during renovation work and reburied in another area of the jail.

Ten years ago jail bosses dug up the remains of the last man hanged in Scotland before they shut Craiginches jail in Aberdeen.

Henry John Burnett went to the gallows for murder in 1963 and was buried in the prison grounds.

His remains were taken for a private ceremony to Aberdeen Crematorium.

The last hanging in Britain was in 1965 and capital punishment was abolished in 1969.

Barlinnie Governor Michael Stoney said: "We have consulted with partners and set out a bold vision for a new HMP Glasgow, which will provide the maximum possible benefit to those who live and work there, and our surrounding communities.

"Through a better quality of living environment, and strong relationships with staff, we are determined to help those in our care comprehend and understand how they can move forward and set themselves on the road to a better future.

"HMP Glasgow will be a strong and supportive partner, both locally and to the wider Scottish justice system, delivering a social value that benefits the well-being of our wider communities."

BRAZEN gangster Mark Richardson spent thousands of pounds on funeral wreaths to celebrate his late cousin's armed robbery at a jewellers.

The caged hood arranged for flowers showing off items in a nod to Matthew Ferry's terrifying raid at the Laing store in Edinburgh nine years ago.

Matthew Ferry died in jail last month

These included a balaclava, bolt cutters, Rolex watch and mobile phone. Colourful "Laings" and "Cartier" designs were also made up.

Other tributes also spelt out "Smash n Grab" and "Bandits" as well as "Cuz", "Friend" and "Ma Boy".

A machine gun wreath was also made to acknowledge the weapon cops found stashed at Ferry's grandmother's house.

The Celtic fan – who stole almost £250,000 of gear in the heist – was found dead last month at HMP Edinburgh where he was serving 13 years.

A source said: "Richardson and Ferry were tight, they were more like brothers than cousins.

"Richardson wanted to pay tribute to him in his own way and show that he could still get it done even though he's in jail."

An unsigned card was also left at the funeral.

It read: "We spoke about it since we were young offenders. Now someone better tell they other jewellers to up their security because when I'm out there's no way you're the only on with this on your CV.

"I might be thick but I'm wise enough no to leave my name here or I'd be caught already. RIP x."

One message said: "Matthew for you the action was the juice. Rest in peace brother x."

Another read: "You were too fast to live. Crime all the time! Take it easy cuz and keep me a seat, this is not goodbye x."

Ferry's pals also circulated a video celebrating his life which included him doing motorbike wheelies on the streets of the capital. It features the soundtrack to 1980 movie McVicar starring rocker Roger Daltrey as an armed robber.

His packed out funeral on April 12 – at the city's Mortonhall Crematorium – saw a truck emblazoned with his name along with his date of birth and death.

Ferry was locked up in 2015 after pleading guilty to the shameless raid on Laing the Jewellers in March that year.

He was 24 at the time he bolted with a haul of watches before hijacking a taxi at gunpoint, using a replica pistol.

The driver and a passenger were still inside the private cab as he made his escape.

Armed police later detained Ferry at his grandmother's home where they unearthed a Mac-10 submachine gun.

They also found ammo and heroin with a street value of more than £50,000.

Ferry later pleaded guilty to five charges at the High Court in Edinburgh where judge, Lord Glennie said: "It's clear this must have been terrifying for your victims, both in the shop and the taxi.

"Offences like these can't be tolerated."

Richardson – who cops believed was once the biggest supplier of cocaine in Edinburgh – is currently in jail for his role in a £200 million supergang.

A WOMAN who was one of three people convicted of murdering a teenage girl more than 27 years ago has been jailed for at least 17 years.

During 10 days of evidence, the jury heard the trio had arranged to meet Caroline at a bridge near the towpath beside the River Leven, between Renton and Bonhill in West Dunbartonshire, on August 25 that year.

Caroline was repeatedly punched and kicked, and had bricks or similar items thrown at her, causing blunt force trauma to her head and body.

She was pushed or fell into undergrowth and her body was discovered in the river at Place of Bonhill, Renton, later the same day, which was her mother's 40th birthday.

Brand was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 17 years when she appeared for sentencing today.

O'Brien and Kelly were sentenced to life terms in January, with O'Brien ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years behind bars and Kelly a minimum of 18 years.

Brand could not be sentenced in January because she was in hospital.

Tijuana police said a group of armed men ambushed Cardenas, 25, on the Playas de Rosarito-Tijuana road in an attempt to kidnap the Corridos Tumbados singer, according to Punto Norte.

Cardenas managed to escape his kidnappers' grasp by jumping out of the vehicle the suspects had placed him in.

The gunmen fired multiple shots at Cardenas, who was found dead with his wrists handcuffed, the outlet reported.

Photos from the scene obtained by Punto Norte showed the musician lying beside an orange Renault Stepway van.

Cardenas' record label, Street Mob Records, founded by renowned Mexican artist Jesús Ortiz Paz of the group Fuerza Regida, confirmed his death in a statement.

"On behalf of Street Mob Records, we deeply regret the passing of our colleague and brother Chuy Montana," the statement posted on Instagram read.

"We stand in solidarity with his family during this time of grief. We kindly request understanding and respect from the media at this difficult moment."

Before Ortiz Paz's Street Mob Records signed him, Cardenas was popular on social media for singing and playing his guitar between vehicles waiting in line to cross back into the United States via the San Ysidro, Tijuana, side of the border in Mexico.

A viral video on social media showed the moment Cardenas and another fellow guitars ran into Ortiz Paz, who was seated in the back seat of a car waiting in line to cross back into the US.

Cardenas is seen singing to Ortiz Paz, who then asks the Tijuana native in the video if he wrote the song.

Ortiz Paz pulls out a piece of paper and signs Cardenas to his Street Mob Records, saying, "Sign here only. It's all set; you're signed to the company. They're going to send you a message. Go home, that's it."

Cardenas eventually blew up following the release of his singles Porte de Scarface and Ramos Buchones.

He was featured in the single Polvos de Chanel from Fuerza Regida's latest album, Pa las Baby's y Belikeada.

Ortiz Paz mourned Cardenas' death sharing a pair of videos of the two singing in what appeared to be private events.

In one of the videos, shared on Ortiz Paz's Instagram Stories, Cardenas is seen sitting on a sofa playing the guitar while the Fuerza Regida frontman is rapping.

The second video, recorded in a lavish backyard, shows Cardenas and Ortiz Paz rapping together.
