Pentagon considers stripping 20 Medal of Honor recipients amid probe into Wounded Knee Massacre in which soldiers slaughtered Native American women and children

The Pentagon has launched a review that could see 20 Medals of Honor awarded to soldiers in the Wounded Knee Massacre rescinded. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the review into the awards handed to those who participated in the 1890 battle in South Dakota. Around 250 Native Americans, including women and children, were killed in the fight and at least another 100 were wounded. Medals of Honor were given to 20 soldiers from the 7th Cavalry regiment for their actions on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation near Wounded Knee Creek.

A Florida man convicted of raping a woman and killing her brother in a national forest nearly three decades ago has learned his fate. Loran Cole, 57, is set to be executed by lethal injection on August 28 at the Florida State Prison after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed his death warrant on Monday. He had been sentenced to death in 1995, when he was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and sexual battery for the death of John Edwards and the assault of his sister, Pam.
